Job Title: Volunteers
Position: Two vacant positions available (Gender and Communication volunteers)
Location: Buea, Bonduma-
City: Buea-South West Region-Cameroon
Section: Gender and communication
HIC’s mission is to provide individuals, especially girls and women with a mind-blowing learning experience through practical and relevant content that dwells mostly on STEM-related fields to empower individuals with critical, logical and problem-solving skills needed to address pertinent issues in societies. Hence, HIC has the following specific goals/objectives.
- Advocate and promote the engagement of vulnerable persons especially girls and women in the various STEM fields to bring about lasting development and growth.
- Advocate for the protection of the rights of vulnerable persons especially girls and women in accordance with International Ratified Charters and National Legislations.
- Serve as a link with other (domestic and international) organizations focused on the protection of the rights of women and girls and those fostering STEM education for girls.
- Work with Schools directly to ascertain areas of discrepancies in our STEM subject with that of other countries especially those of the developed world in order to place our women and girls in a competitive edge.
- Shape Policies and Practices that support the education of women in STEM in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and U.N Resolution A/RES/70/212.
- Collaborate with all those striving for social, educational and psychological interventions in the promotion of STEM education for Women and girls.
- Advocate for discussions that would bring to the fore increased awareness within women and girls of the benefits of certain policy measures as they seek to maximize social welfare.
- Build Women and girls’ capacity, knowledge, confidence, skills and courage in any intervention to take ownership and sustainability of their interactions with state actors in a promising process that would gradually become a political culture in our country.
- Advocate for strong institutions of justice in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal
- Empower Women and Promote Gender Equality which is crucial is accelerating Sustainable Development. Ending all forms of violations against Women and Girls is not only basic Human Rights, but it also has a multiplier effect across all other development areas.
Provide invaluable resources to persons seeking for industrial placement and volunteer opportunities, and also aspiring academics at all levels to engage in research on issues relating to Human Rights and STEM education.
JOB PURPOSE
Support HIC in fulfilling its mission especially those in line with UN sustainable development goals and UNSCR 2467 on Sexual Violence in Armed Conflicts (SVAC) and other UN-related tools for gender equality/equity. To assist in the provision of policy and technical advice within the mission of the organization and host government and partners regarding the advancement of the mission of the organization
Communications:
- The key purpose of this position is to assist and contributes to issues relating to the internal and external communications need of HIC. He or she will also assist in the sub-editing and proofreading of communications products including but not limited to success stories, photographs, videos and social media. Contributes to drafting newsletters, brochures and other publicity materials.
- Supports program team in the development and printing of training material and training guide
- Assist in Implementing the organization’s communication and advocacy strategy
- Assist in the production of capacity-building communication material for example, toolkits, publications, documentaries etc.
- Assist in the design, implementation and monitoring of HIC’s project communication strategy.
- Assist in the Designing and implementation of media campaigns for Project activities.
- Develops effective relations with media personnel.
- Drafts press briefings and press releases.
Gender
- Assist in monitoring, documenting and reporting on gender issues in Cameroon: This will involve investigations, and dealing with survivors of Gender Based Violence and other human rights violations.
- Maintained good working relationships with other Civil Society organisations
- Be ready to gain new skills in the area of gender and human rights
- Liaise with key national and international stakeholders, key domestic political and civic actors, civil society organizations, international NGOs, UN partners and donors in the region to facilitate and enhance contribution towards the implementation of the gender equality agenda.
- Assist in the development of concept notes, project documents and policy frameworks and research area and gender issues for best practices as directed by the management.
Qualification:
The most appropriate candidates should have the following profile:
- Holders of at least a bachelor’s degree or professional diploma in the relevant field
- Working experience in the relevant fields is an added advantage.
- NGO experience preferred gender, communications and additionally projects management and monitoring, impact assessment, and team mobilisation
- Computer and internet literacy
- Excellent skills in written and oral communication
- Ability to work in multicultural teams,
- Ability to work under pressure and multiple deadlines
- Must be able to work effectively in a politically sensitive environment and exercise discretion, impartiality, and neutrality
- Proven ability to plan and ensure targets are met
- Excellent planning, interpersonal and communication skills
Language:
Should be fluent in both written and spoken English. French will be an added advantage.
